Japanese entertainment company Sony has teamed up to Astar Network, a blockchain innovation hub, to launch a three month-long Web3 Incubation Program.
This program will help promising startups focus on DeFi, Web3 Gaming, Metaverse, and Infrastructure.
The Web3 Incubation program will be open from February 17th to June 15th and accepts applications. It will have 10 to 15 cohorts. Startale Labs (a Singapore-based company founded in 2012 by CEO Sota Watanabe of Astar Network) will manage the process.
It Will Run
Startale Labs provides decentralized apps (dApps), as well as infrastructure such wallets, lending, and NFT marketplaces for Astar’s WebAssembly eco-system.
Startale is a gateway to Astar Network and facilitates integration with large businesses. It also offers expert consulting services in multi-chain protocol design.
Web3 Incubation Program’s goal is to support promising ideas in transitioning into minimum viable products (MVPs) regardless of their Web3 startup stage.
The program is supported by the Astar Network, which provides a strong ecosystem for candidates interested in infrastructure, Web3 gaming, and DeFi.
Startale will offer additional support for successful candidates, such as tech support and business strategy. They will also benefit from Astar’s business development and business expertise.
This program has additional benefits, such as educational sessions with VC firms worldwide like Dragonfly Capital, Fenbushi Capital and Alchemy Ventures. There are also Web3 businesses and workshops on technology and business strategy. A live demo day will be held at the Sony Group headquarters, Tokyo, during Japan Blockchain Week.
Sota Watanabe (CEO of Startale Labs) and Astar Network’s CEO expressed their delight at the launch of the Web3 incubator program with Sony Network Communications. Watanabe hopes to use the combined knowledge and resources of both companies in order to provide value to program participants as well as create new use cases and projects.

Sony is the largest entertainment company in the world. Playstation has been at forefront of entertainment for decades, whether it be music production or leading audio-visual equipment to gaming consoles.
To provide consulting and contracted development services for NFT products, the company established a Singapore regional office.
Although this latest venture with Startale Labs in the Web3 space is a small investment by such a giant it will be symbolic and attract other entertainment conglomerates to look into the Web3 market.
